sanctify them in your truth

We have the words of God. Written. Engraved into our hearts by the Spirit.

The sufficiency of scripture to show us the hidden attributes and mysteries of the Lord, to produce a fear and love for the Lord and His commandments, to build us up in wisdom and knowledge, to mold us into righteous and holy children of God, and to sustain our weary beings has completely transformed my faith. His Word alone is sufficient to produce that which no man can cultivate on his own. How powerful are the Words of our God!

The Lord is so faithful in revealing Himself to His children through His words---so why do we, why do I, so often neglect scripture?

Scripture is what sustains the life of a believer. We are called to treasure up God's word. Call out for wisdom and knowledge of God---and seek after it like silver. For wisdom produces a fear of the Lord. The Lord gives wisdom, in fact He stores up wisdom for the upright (Proverbs 2).

A fear of the Lord and wisdom go hand-in-hand. This wisdom is revealed in the scripture.

Alongside of personal seeking into the good Book, it is also greatly important to be under the leadership and preaching of those who are faithful in abiding by the words of scripture and not tampering with that which is infallible. May we not be swayed by false doctrine. May we incline our ears to hear that which is of the Lord our God. May we see the redemptive works of God throughout the whole Canon of scripture and trust in the inerrancy of that which He has written.

// Create in us, Father, a longing that is only quenched by the words of Your mouth. May we abide in Your word. Build us up in Your truth. Allow us to trust completely in the all-sufficient, all-redemptive truths of Your Holy Canon. Sanctify us in Your truth, day and night. May it dwell with us, abide with us, shape us to be more like Your Son. //

"sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth." John 17:17

"having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God;" 1 Peter 1:22-23

(in qualifications of the elders in the church) "He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it." Titus 1:9
